Sciences Academy Backs Charter Without Supervisory Council Provision
MOSCOW. March 28 (Interfax) – The Russian Academy of Sciences confirmed its charter at a general meeting on Wednesday after rejecting the provision on the Supervisory Council, proposed by the Education and Science Ministry.
The charter is to be submitted to the Cabinet for confirmation before April 1.
Earlier reports said that serious disputes had arisen between the Academy of Sciences and the Education and Science Ministry over the Charter. The Academy drafted and published in February a draft charter negotiated with ministries. The Education Ministry proposed an alternative draft, or what it called a “model charter,” advocating a reform of the Academy’s managerial bodies.
