Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation Announces Expanded Relationship With TXU

Posted on: Tuesday, 3 April 2007, 09:00 CDT

DALLAS, April 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation (TPWF) announced today it is expanding a long-standing relationship with TXU Corp. by launching a new land and wildlife conservation initiative.

As the official non-profit partner of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD), the Foundation raises private funds for priority conservation projects. This initiative will allow all the partners to accomplish common conservation goals, so together they will manage and protect the unique natural resources of Texas.

As part of this initiative, TXU becomes the presenting sponsor for the Foundation's annual Expo Banquet & Conservation Hall of Fame Celebration for at least the next five years. Inductees at the October 5, 2007 event will be the late Perry R. Bass and the Texas Bighorn Society.

In addition, TXU will fund construction of a building at the new Texas Game Warden Training Center in Hamilton County, Texas. These projects, along with others to be announced later, represent a substantial expansion of TXU's already-extensive ongoing support of Texas Parks & Wildlife programs.

TXU's commitment provides TPWF with continuity and certainty it has never had before. "We've enjoyed a long and productive relationship with TXU," said Dick Davis, executive director of TPWF. "We're thrilled that TXU is expanding its support for protecting the natural resources that all Texans can enjoy. We have also met with the investors proposing to buy TXU, and we feel very good about their commitment to important projects like these in the future."

"TXU has worked with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and the Foundation for many years, both through our power plant operations and in support of conservation efforts across North Texas," said Mike Greene, CEO of TXU Power. "Today, we're taking that relationship to a new level. The Foundation approached us about a more strategic, long-term alliance, and we're glad to step up. We look forward to driving success with this new initiative."

The Game Warden Training Center is a state-of-the-art facility for the training and education of the best game wardens in the nation. "We appreciate TXU and several other significant donors for stepping up early to fund this vital project," added Davis. "The funding they provide will serve as an important challenge to other individuals and businesses as we enter the next phase of fundraising from the public. TXU has agreed to fund the gymnasium, and construction is expected to be completed by 2009."

These new projects continue a tradition of support by TXU. Other prior or ongoing efforts include:

* A recent contribution of more than $1 million to fund the development of the Eagle Mountain Lake park project. * A joint 15-year agreement between the TPWD and TXU that provides unique support to the Department's Inland Fisheries Research Program. * Membership in TPWF's Corporate Conservation Coalition (CCC).

Together, these new and ongoing efforts represent about $3 million in support from TXU for Texas Parks & Wildlife programs.

"The Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation improves the quality of Texas' natural resources and is important to the communities in which we operate, our employees, and really all Texans," added Greene. "We're proud to be associated with Texas Parks & Wildlife and support its work."

Since 1991, the TPWF has served as the designated non-profit funding partner for the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, successfully raising more than $48 million.
