BOULDER, Colo., April 9, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Energy Conservation Technologies, Inc. (Pink Sheets:ENYC), a landmark technology company ("Econ"), recently launched test installations of its energy saving electronic ballasts for high intensity discharge (HID) lamps. Manufactured in the USA, Econ's ballasts were installed in the streetlights of Mexico City in February 2007 followed by a second installation in March 2007. The Public Utility of Mexico City maintains these streetlights and will record monthly performance data including energy savings.
These test installations are part of Econ's current product marketing strategy and commercialization plan. Econ will install more ballasts in North America including streetlights in and around Boulder, Colorado. The volume manufacturing and sales of its ballasts are expected to begin in the second half of this year. Econ's patented and proven product technology is more advanced, cost competitive, reliable, and saves substantial electrical energy. Furthermore, unlike its competitors, Econ's innovative and patent pending ballast housing design allows its ballasts to retrofit into existing lighting fixtures.
Worldwide there are approximately 1 billion streetlights. Almost all of them use HID lamps and inefficient magnetic ballasts for lamp operations. Due to soaring demands on energy, more efficient HID electronic ballasts will soon start to replace these magnetic ballasts. Econ's test installations are part of its marketing strategy for capturing a small portion of this emerging electronic HID streetlight market, which alone is projected to generate tens of million dollars in ballast sales per year for the Company and its joint venture partners.
Fazle Quazi, Econ's Chairman stated, "We are truly excited. Our low frequency electronic ballasts for 250W pulse start metal halide lamps are now illuminating the streets of Mexico City. Econ's ballasts save more than 20% electrical energy, provide 2 years longer lamp life and superior night visibility for motorists. Our ballasts will reduce an estimated $30 operating costs per year per streetlight and will also eliminate tons of greenhouse gas emissions. It is indeed the beginning of a new era of 'green' street lighting throughout the world."
