Earthquake Hits Central Japan
April 16, 2007
Twelve people were injured when an earthquake that registered 5.4 on the Richter scale hit central Japan, Kuna News Agency reported Sunday.
The quake struck large areas of central and west Japan, damaging scores of houses and causing the collapse of part of a stone wall from a castle built in the 16th century.
More than 4,000 households lost electric service and high-speed bullet train service was temporarily halted to allow for safety checks, Kuna said.
Sharp, the world’s third-largest liquid-crystal display television maker, temporarily halted operations for safety checks on production lines at its plant in Kameyama City.
