Tokyo, April, 16 (Jiji Press)–Japanese automobile importer Yanase & Co. said Monday it will start using an environment- friendly water-soluble paint developed by E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. for automobile repairs.

The water-based coating, Standohyd, gives off 80 pct less volatile organic compound, a cause of air pollution, than oil-based automobile paints.

Many Japanese automakers already use water-soluble paints for new cars, but Yanase is the first Japanese company to introduce such a paint for automobile repairs.

Yanase will start using Standohyd at 10 repair shops under its direct management and urge 194 franchised garages to adopt the environment-friendly paint.END
