WORK on Letterkenny's new sports complex may be stopped after archaeologists uncovered the remains of a possible ancient ringfort on the site.
The Irish Archaeological ConsultancyLtd made the discovery after work started on the site last week.
They believe they have found other historical remnants just outside the immediate locality.
The archaeologists have warned the local council that the development would have a negative and permanent impact on the remains.
They have recommended an investigation on the site to discover the true nature of the remains.
Members of the heritage society An Taisce will be monitoring the site to ensure the remains are untouched.
