DCNR Seeks Community Volunteers to Clean Up Michaux State Forest in Franklin County, Pa.

HARRISBURG, Pa., April 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Michael DiBerardinis is calling for volunteers to help clean up illegally dumped trash in Michaux State Forest, Franklin County, on May 5 and 6.

"With more than 85,000 acres, Michaux State Forest is managed for a variety of uses that benefit the citizens of Pennsylvania," DiBerardinis said. "We need the help of the community in our efforts to remove litter and illegally dumped trash along our state forest roads."

The cleanup will target Rattlesnake Run Road beginning at 8:30 a.m. on May 5 at the gravel pull-off at the intersection of Mentzer Gap Road and Route 16. A second work day will target Ridge Road South beginning at 12:30 p.m. on May 6 at the District Forest Office on Route 30. Volunteers will be provided with lunch and drinks.

Interested citizens should contact Michelle Dunn at PA CleanWays at 877-772-3673, ext. 37, or at mdunn@pacleanways.org to register. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes, long pants, long sleeves and work gloves. All volunteers must be at least 12 years old. Volunteers under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult supervisor during the cleanup and must have a consent form signed by a parent or guardian. Each adult supervisor may be responsible for no more than six youth volunteers.

DCNR partners with PA CleanWays, a non-profit organization, to identify dumpsites and form community volunteer teams to help remove the waste under the Forest Lands Beautification Program.
