Many Scientists are Convinced that Man Can See the Future

Posted on: Saturday, 5 May 2007, 18:10 CDT

By DR DANNY PENMAN

PROFESSOR Dick Bierman sits hunched over his computer in a darkened room. The gentle whirring of machinery can be heard faintly in the background. He smiles and presses a grubby-looking red button. In the next room, a patient slips slowly inside a hospital brain scanner. If it wasn't for the strange smiles and grimaces that flicker across the woman's face, you could be forgiven for thinking this was just a normal health check.

But this scanner is engaged in one of the most profound paranormal experiments of all time, one that may well prove whether or not it is possible to predict the future.

For the results - released exclusively to the Daily Mail - suggest that ordinary people really do have a sixth sense that can help them 'see' the future.

Such amazing studies - if verified - might help explain the predictive powers of mediums and a range of other psychic phenomena such Extra Sensory Perception, dEj vu and clairvoyance. On a more mundane level, it may account for 'gut feelings' and instinct.

The man behind the experiments is certainly convinced. 'We're satisfied that people can sense the future before it happens,' says Professor Bierman, a psychologist at the University of Amsterdam. 'We'd now like to move on and see what kind of person is particularly good at it.' And Bierman is not alone: his findings mirror the data gathered by other scientists and paranormal researchers both here and abroad.

Professor Brian Josephson, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist from Cambridge University, says: 'So far, the evidence seems compelling. What seems to be happening is that information is coming from the future.

'In fact, it's not clear in physics why you can't see the future. In physics, you certainly cannot completely rule out this effect.' Virtually all the great scientific formulae which explain how the world works allow information to flow backwards and forwards through time - they can work either way, regardless.

SHORTLY after 9/11, strange stories began circulating about the lucky few who had escaped the outrage. It transpired that many of the survivors had changed their plans at the last minute after vague feelings of unease.

It was a subtle, gnawing feeling that 'something' was not right. Nobody vocalised it but shortly before the attacks, people started altering their plans out of an unspoken instinct.

One woman suffered crippling stomach pain while queuing for one of the ill-fated planes which flew into the World Trade Center. She made her way to the lavatory only to recover spontaneously. She missed her flight but survived the day. Amid the collective outpouring of grief and horror it was easy to overlook such stories or write them off as coincidences. But in fact, these kind of stories point to an interesting and deeper truth for those willing to look.

If, for example, fewer people decided to fly on aircraft that subsequently crashed, then that would suggest a subconscious ability to divine the future.

Well, strange as it seems, that's just what happens.

THE aircraft which flew into the Twin Towers on 9/11 were unusually empty.

All the hijacked planes were carrying only half the usual number of passengers. Perhaps one unusually empty plane could be explained away, but all four?

And it wasn't just on 9/11 that people subconsciously seemed to avoid disaster. The scientist Ed Cox found that trains 'destined' to crash carried far fewer people than they did normally.

Dr Jessica Utts, a statistician at the University of California, found exactly the same bizarre effect.

If it was possible to divine the future, you might expect those at the sharp end, such as pilots, to have the most finely tuned instincts of all. And again, that's just what you see.

When the Air France Concorde crashed in 2000, it wasn't long before the colleagues of those killed in the crash spoke about a sense of foreboding that had gripped the crew and flight engineers before the accident.

Speaking anonymously to the French newspaper Le Parisien, one spoke of a 'morbid expectation of an accident'.

'I had this sense that we were going to bump into the scenery,' he said.

'The atmosphere on the Concorde team for the last few months, if one has the guts to admit it, had been one of morbid expectation of an accident.

It was as if I was waiting for something to happen.' All of these stories suggest that we can pick up premonitions of events that are yet to be.

Although these premonitions are not in glorious Technicolor, they are often emotionally powerful enough for us to act upon them.

In technical parlance it is known as 'presentiment' because emotional feelings are being received from the future, not hard facts or information.

The military has long been fascinated by such phenomena. For many years the U.S. military (and latterly the CIA) funded a secretive programme known as Stargate, which set out to investigate premonitions and the ability of mediums to predict the future.

Dr Dean Radin worked on the Stargate programme and became fascinated by the ability of 'lucky' soldiers to forecast the future.

These are the ones who survived battles against seemingly impossible odds.

Radin became convinced that thoughts and feelings - and occasionally-actual glimpses of the future - could flow backwards in time to guide soldiers. It helped them make lifesaving decisions, often on the basis of a hunch.

He devised an experiment to test these ideas. He hooked up volunteers to a modified lie detector, which measured an electrical current across the surface of the skin.

This current changes when a person reacts to an event such as seeing an extremely violent picture or video. It's the electrical equivalent of a wince. Radin showed sexually explicit, violent or soothing images to volunteers in a random sequence determined by computer.

And he soon discovered that people began reacting to the pictures before they saw them. It was unmistakable.

They began to 'wince' a few seconds before they actually saw the image.

And it happened time and time again, way beyond what chance alone would allow.

So impressive were Radin's results that Dr Kary Mullis, a Nobel Prizewinning chemist, took an interest.

He was hooked up to Radin's machine and shown the emotionally charged images.

'It's spooky,' he says 'I could see about three seconds into the future.

You shouldn't be able to do that.' OTHER researchers from around the world, from Edinburgh University to Cornell in the U.S., rushed to duplicate Radin's experiment and improve on it. And they got similar results.

It was soon discovered that gamblers began reacting subconsciously shortly before they won or lost. The same effect was seen in those terrified of animals, moments before they were shown the creatures. The odds against all of these trials being wrong are literally millions to one against.

Professor Dick Bierman decided to take this work even further. He is a psychologist who has become convinced that time as we understand it is an illusion. He could see no reason why people could not see into the future just as easily as we dip into memories of our past.

He's in good company. Einstein described the distinction between the past, present and future as 'a stubbornly persistent illusion'.

To prove Einstein's point, Bierman looked inside the brains of volunteers using a hospital MRI scanner while he repeated Dr Radin's experiments. These scanners show which parts of the brain are active when we do certain tasks or experience specific emotions.

Although extremely complex, and with each analysis taking weeks of computing time, he has run the experiments twice involving more than 20 volunteers.

And the results suggest quite clearly that seemingly ordinary people are capable of sensing the future on a fairly consistent basis.

Bierman emphasises that people are receiving feelings from the future rather than specific 'visions'.

It's clear, though, that if ordinary people can receive feelings from the future then perhaps the especially gifted may receive visions of things yet to be.

It's also clear that many paranormal phenomena such as ESP and clairvoyance could have their roots in presentiment.

After all, if you can see a few seconds into the future, why not a few days or even years? And surely if you could look through time, why not across great distances? It's a concept that ties the mind in knots, unless you're a physicist.

'I believe that we can "sense" the future,' says the Nobel Prizewinning physicist Brian Josephson.

'We just haven't yet established the mechanism allowing it to happen.

'People have had so called " paranormal" or "transcendental" experiences along these lines. Bierman's work is another piece of the jigsaw.

The fact that we don't understand something does not mean that it doesn't happen.' If we are all regularly sensing the future or occasionally receiving glimpses of it, as some mediums claim to do, then doesn't that mean we can change the future and render the 'prediction' obsolete?

Or perhaps we were meant to receive the premonition and act upon it? Such paradoxes could go on for ever, providing a rich seam of material for films such as Minority Report - based on a short story of the same name - in which a special police department is able to foresee and prevent crimes before they have even taken place.

COULD such science fiction have a grain of truth in it after all? The emerging view, Bierman explains, is that 'the future has implications for the past'.

'This phenomena allows you to make a decision on the basis of what will happen in the future.

Does that restrain our free will?

That's up to the philosophers. I'm far too shallow a person to worry about that.' The problem with presentiment is that it appears so nebulous that you can't rely on it to make reliable decisions. That may be the case, but there are plenty of instances where people wished they had listened to their premonitions or feelings of presentiment.

One of the saddest involves the Aberfan disaster. This occurred in 1966 when a coal tip collapsed and swept through a Welsh school killing 144 people, including 116 children. It turned out that 24 people had received premonitions of the tragedy.

One involved a little girl who was killed. She told her mother shortly before she was taken to school: 'I dreamed I went to school and there was no school there. Something black had come down all over it.' So should we listen to our instincts, hunches and dreams?

Some experts believe we may already be using them in our everyday lives to a surprising degree.

Dr Jessica Utts at the University of California, who has worked for the U.S.

military and CIA as an independent auditor of its paranormal research, believes we are constantly sampling the future and using the knowledge to help us make better decisions.

'I think we're doing it all the time,' she says. 'We've looked at the data and it does seem to happen.' So perhaps the Queen in Through The Looking Glass was right: 'It's a poor sort of memory that only works backwards.'

On Sept 10th 2001 at 8 PM I was a passenger in a car driven by Gerard Mollica. We came to a red light on the west side of downtown Manhattan next to the trade center. I said to Gerard A plane is going to hit the trade center I have to go warn a cop maybe inside. As I started to exit the car Gerard said your losing it doesn't . I said I'm telling you it's going to be hit..Okay what are you going to tell them when they ask you who you with. You see Gerard Mollics at the time was on parole and wasn't suppose to be in New York. He kept yelling there going to lock you up. I said they wont believe me would they ..hell no he said I got back in the car. Thinking about it as we left. I couldn't help thinking here we were just one day before with our friend Mohammad ahmid Gerard on parole and then their was I. I thought And then their was the next day when Gerard called me up at 8 am and said turn on your TV I was sick and till this day I am sick over it..truly I don't know where this premonition came from but I sure did fail. I regret it to this day and this is not my first nor was it my last premonition...of events

For about five years every time i drove by a lake here but only when going by it going south i would have a vision of a meteor comming down. Then one night when driveing by it going south i saw the biggest meteor i have ever seen come down. It had flames comming off it and was seen all over the state. Strange how we can sometimes see things in the future. Wished i knew how that is possible.

i too can see the future but the way i see it its just a feeling its not a dream and i cant see it more than a day ahead like just yesterday i was going to the store and i just had this strange uneasy feeling that i would see my ex-friend who hates me. when i got there i looked for her and at first she wasnt there but then a couple of minutes later she came in and she walked right past me. and when i was 12 i just had this feeling that i was going to have a snow day tomorrow and we did these are only a few of the times i feel like i can see the future sometimes before a new song is released ill just start singing about the same thing for no real reason. I cant control my gift at all though it just randomly happens. its starting to happen more and more now that im getting older though. it used to happen maybe evry other week but now its starting to happen every couple of days. Everyone says all this stuff is fake but i think all this supernatural stuff is real I truly believe in warewolves, vampires, mindreaders, and phsychics particularly people like me who can see the future. ANYONE ON HERE WHO DOESNT BELIEVE THIS YOU SHOULD ITS TRUE

there are always things in the future that ordinary men cannot predict or believe, i see the future and is so funny when people try to say that, there is no God...

first off all of the comments saying people can see the future are TRUE!!! i should know since i can see the future myself... well in my dreams im not completely in control with my \"power\" : ( i can\'t remember them completely but i can tell whether or not i had them. EX: one time when i was like five i dreamed i was walking in backyard with some sheers between my trailer and fireplace and in my mind i was thinking \"hey i remember this moment... weird\" and then a few days later the EXACTLY same thing happened, same exact thoughts everything! Now this has happened to me many times but theyre usually only about 10 seconds long each.... and i agree with people that there should be techniques to help control thier abilities.

I can do it all the time. cant say it can be controlled. i know just befor it happens. i feel as if i am lifted up a foot or so into the air and all my other feelings or somewhat dulled. I can hyperfocus, and then i can see it, whatever is about to happen. its saved my life more than once. but i have no control, it just happens. i have experamented with it, but it frustrats me. It is also hard on those around me, because there is never a surprize and i always know what they are going to say. it really pisses off my wife. I lean on it to much and at times if i try to alter what is going to happen it feels good. but when i intagrate with others human emotion is involved and if i react to a negative action those who are close to me are about to do it upsets them ,that i knew what to do to minamize their efforts. they also feel that they would have not done what i thought but i have let nature takes its course and paid the price for my iinaction.

the girl im talking to can read minds clearly and go a long time without sleep..and says she can see the future and interact with the dead. she also told me that there is a lot more that she cant tell me..and said that if i continue to be pushy she would have to cut me off from her life, when i asked her why she said it wasnt up to her and that it is bigger than her. i asked her "God big?" and she said "yes". after reading all of your comments i told her that there is a lot of people like her. she then told me "not in OC but there are some in l.a." and then proceeded to tell me that she had to stop there after i said "so its like a union or something?" if anyone has any information they would like to share with me about her or what they think she is or is a part of..or just to talk about "supernatural" things(because im curious) hit me up on [myspace.com/childuknojarred] or jarred.richardson@yahoo.com i would appreciate it..thanks

I can see the future (sometimes in pictures). one day ahead, or 5 days, or 6 months or a few years. It means that all the big thing are determined and can not be changed. And I can read accurately (word by word) other people thoughts. How come ? ?

The part about Tiffany becoming my girlfriend, that was a distance of almost 5 years that I knew soemthing was going to happen. And it happened the day my antivirus expired, too. (Funny how that happened. It expired on the morning of the day we started going out.)
151. Posted by Chase on 10/29/2009, 22:15
Well, I've been able to kinda see what will happen in the future a couple times, but not always exactly as what happens. Two of these times are: In fourth grade, out of nowhere, I started telling kids at lunch, that I had a girlfriend named Tiffany, and that she went to another school. Back then, I didn't know a Tiffany, and never had a girlfriend. When I entered 8th grade, a girl named Tiffany was in a few of my classes. I didn't think anything about it then. But, then out of nowhere, a friend of mine tells her that i want to go out with her, and we start dating. It's been almost a year now sicne we started going out (and are still together), and I never remembered what happened in fourth grade until about 6 months after we went out. Another time when I was able to know what happened was with a game called runescape. They were in the midst of making a new skill to train. They hadn't released it yet, or given any information about the new skill out. A week before the skill was completely released (many features were hidden), I started telling my friends "When you max out the skill, you are going to be able to summon a dragon." I was right. Out of space now.

A few times I have thought of things that might happen and they came true 100%. One day it was about school and something I wish would happen. It had about three huge details that all oddly happened exactly the same. I also had more of these things on occasions and i'm not sure why.

Nothing can be said about this people... actually it\'s a combination of astrology, astronomy, luck. and pure coincidences. Even i get horrible dreams sometimes. and next day that thing happens! yes! Really; u just cant say no. i have also given a thought to these kinda subjects.. But really speaking the human brain is capable of doing things we ourselves cannot imagine.. thou miracles happen and what science cant explain are miracles, its out of its scope.. many theories have benn formed by humans on this subject!!! Well that my opinion....! thank you!

Yeah my grandma used to get those all the time. Once, my grandma was in another country and right after my mom got hit by a car, the phone rang and instantly my grandma answered and asked what was wrong with her daughter without even knowing anything about the crash.

Honestly, me and my friend were talking about this a few months back, right after something had happened. *None of the following actually happened*So me and my friend had lied to our parents and drove out to smoke some weed. So we get high (me moreso than him) and I'm baked. So, I tell him to take my keys and drive us to walmart cause I was to fucked up (he has no license, yet he's drove my truck over a lot bigger distance than this multiple times) and he told me he had a bad feeling about it and I should drive. So I keep naggin him til he finally agrees and we drive off. A lil ways up the road we run into a cop that knew him and saw him drivin and there came the red and blue. We ended up getting off easy: the cop didn't find our weed and only called our parents (cause my friend bein a dumbass admitted we smoked weed). But on the way home we were talkin about this same thing.

9/11/01 seems to show the date 21-12-2011. Janelle ! watch this : 9 plus 11 plus 01 equals to 21. 11 plus 01 equals to 12 9 plus 11 : 20 and there is 11 next to 9 up there we can add. finally it shows 21-12-2011. As mayans predicted. Your grandpa s world ended at the time he said so the world which he knows come to an end.He could really be seen some serius things.Have he ever write something on somewhere or some numbers maybe! Nothing in this world is coincidence.
143. Posted by Janelle on 09/27/2009, 01:04
Yeah, I believe this cause my grandpa would always say the world was gonna end in 2000. But guess what? He died january 1, 2000. And he always said that he saw the numbers 9 11 01 with fire everywhere in his dreams... 9/11/01..... Creep stuff. I always thought he was messin' with me cause I was young but I wish I could have known it was all the truth.

IT'S NOT DE JA VU!!!!!!! I've had dreams that I've told people about, even written down, and come true EXACTLY as in the dream. Not some random occurrence. As far out a year with no way to possibly know those events could ever happen. We don't know half of what we think we know about the human brain.

They were broken up and wasnt told where we were.

Human behaviour is based on 5 senses and response from the brain to these senses. For ex. A student preparing for his examination is not disturbed by the digital dolby played in his neighbouhood. CAN HE PREDICT FUTURE? A mother watching her 2 yr. old trumbling child from kitchen reaches to hold him before he looses his balance. DID SHE PREDICTED THE FUTURE? We always look at the sky or sense the wind and guess if it is going to rain or not. ARE WE PREDECTING FUTURE. Answer to these questions is YES. The medium(Concentration) is same but the ways are different. In above cases: 1. Analysis 2. Fear 3. Knowledge and experience. So , if 5 senses and response of brain gets synchronized some EXTRAORDINARY behaviour bound to happen.(As they normally wont) .

"All the hijacked planes were carrying only half the usual number of passengers. Perhaps one unusually empty plane could be explained away, but all four?" If all four planes were carrying an unusually low amount of passengers on any other day then this would not be as miraculous. By attributing this event to "phenomena of precognition" then you systematically eliminate every other possible variable. You essentially sterilize your postulate from falsification, and since the bombings themselves strike such a deep emotional chord, that will go all the further to advancing this absolutely unsubstantiated non-sense.

Most of you haven’t put in the time or effort to be allowed to offer an opinion.

continuation... before that happened i have no idea that our guidance councilor will be resigning and he'll be transfering in St. Paul college.. I don't even really know or think or often see our guidance councilor.. It just happened nowhere... It's not a de ja vu, an optical illussion, or just a feeling. Because i can see and i can hear it.. I don't know that scenarion really doesn't have any significance, or it doesnt have any drama.. It's just likean ordinary meeting.. The only thing that's extra ordinary is that I see what is going to happened i can hear what's he's going to say before it all happen. I don't know this past few days its really bothering me.. I have all these questons in my head.. and I can't tell anyone about it.. Should I do anything about it???

I've experience seeing the future.. Yes, It really sounds crazy, that even I can't beleive it and even doubt myself. It happened on me twice, once when I was 12yrs old and the 2nd time was when I was 17yrs. old. I kept it a secret telling just one of my friend. I'm afraid people might say I'm crazy. But its bothering me now that I'm studying philosophy.. What does it meant? Is our future predetermined?? I've been reading articles about seeing the future, saying it's an optical illusion.. But what I experience was not just an optical illusion.. The scenario on the 2nd time that i saw the future was like this... I was walking with a friend and we are about to approach ur guidance councilor, and as we are approaching like there is a picture in my mind that this had happened before like a de ja vu and in my head i already know that he will tell us that he'll be resigning from his job, and he'll be transferring in St.Paul college and my friend would tell the guidance councilor that she a graduate from that school... that whole scenario played in my mind and for about 5 seconds it happened in real life.. I was just shoked with what happened..

Deja vu has already been scientifically explained and researched and it has nothing to do with being psychic or clairvoyant. It is merely your brain sending current memories being documented to your long term memory storage by accident, and upon realizing the mistake, sending them back to short term. This is why you have the sudden feeling of deja vu. Not a psychic phenomena, just your brain malfunctioning.

Some seem to think that people who are seeing the future are only seeing things they've seen before, and adding additional elements to it to make what they think is the future. But when one sees something entirely new to which they've never seen, it can only mean something that is futuristic or possibly the minds eye. I myself have seen such, but i've learned long ago not to meddle in the affairs of those who cannot see since they'd not believe it anyway. It would change nothing, and cause many people to hate you for it. Simply allow mankind to destroy itself and those that saw will survive. Survival of the fittest.
