Support for Storm Victims
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa, May 8 /PRNewswire/ — Within hours of the F-5 tornado that struck Greensburg, Kan., on May 4, Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company had more than 20 adjusters in the area, and they are continuing to add adjusters, as well as auto appraisers, to their team.
“With damage this significant, we started the claims process before we heard from many of our insureds,” said Steve Wittmuss, property claims vice president, Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company. A loss for every insured in Greensburg has already been entered.
The Farm Bureau team of adjusters plans to be current with the losses by Wednesday, May 16. That means that within 12 days of the storm nearly 200 Farm Bureau Mutual insureds in Greensburg can expect to have their claim inspected and settled, or inspected with an understanding of the basis upon which a settlement will be made (because of the extensive damage, some of the losses will take longer to resolve). “We’re prepared to invest the hundreds of hours necessary to ensure that every insured has the care and support they need and deserve,” Wittmuss said.
To provide support until claims can be settled, Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company is issuing each a $4,000 advance for living expenses. In addition, disposable cell phones were distributed to insureds who’ve lost their homes and have no cell phone access.
