Spanish researchers have discovered a molecule that is useful in diagnosing hypertensive cardiopathy.

The scientists from the Center for Applied Medical Research at the University of Navarra determined cardiotrophin 1 — a molecule that can be measured in blood — can be used as a diagnostic marker for hypertensive cardiopathy and is also useful for preventing or controlling the damaging effects on the heart suffered by patients with the disease.

The research was presented last week in Pamplona, Spain, during a meeting of the International Congress Frontiers in Transnational Research of Cardiovascular Diseases.
