Orleans Parish’s population in March was estimated at 255,137, a 14 percent increase over July but still just 56 percent of its pre- Hurricane Katrina population, according to New Orleans firm GCR & Associates.

In July, the parish had an estimated population of 223,388. The 2005 population was 454,000, according to the Census.

GCR reported “the trend over the last year suggests that many more people are coming to the city than leaving. Significant repopulation activity is occurring in areas that sustained heavy storm damage. As Road Home closings and insurance settlements increase, the repopulation will likely accelerate.”
