TROY — The Children’s Museum of Science and Technology is offering Girls in Science & Technology, a new day camp opportunity this summer.

The programming was developed after it became evident that science and technology programming needed to be developed and targeted specifically at girls to keep their interest and enthusiasm about science and technology alive as they grew older.

Studies have shown that as girls get older and groups become more mixed, their interest in science and technology seems to fade, said John Graydon Smith, CMOST President and CEO. "By presenting camps designed by females, taught by females, and attended only by females, we believe we can inspire girls to explore studies in the sciences and eventually consider employment in a science-based field," he said.

Here are the camps currently scheduled:

It’s Just a ‘Phase’: 9 a.m. to noon, June 25-29 and 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 13-17. For girls ages 5 to 7.

Scientific Explorers: 1 to 4 p.m. July 16-20. For girls ages 5 to 7.

What’s the Matter?: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 25-29 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 20-24. For girls ages 8 to 10.

Scientific Explorers: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 23-27. For girls ages 8 to 10.

In another matter, the museum has been awarded a grant of $1,500 from the Stewart’s Holiday Match to supplement the cost of field trips at the museum for at-risk students around the Capital Region.
