Tennessee to Take Part in Voluntary Review of Oil and Natural Gas Environmental Regulations

A multi-stakeholder team assembled by STRONGER, Inc. has set June 4-6 as the dates for the voluntary review of Tennessee's oil and natural gas environmental regulations. STRONGER is a non-profit organization formed in 1999 to reinvigorate and carry forward the state review process begun cooperatively in 1988 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission.
The Review Team interview of Tennessee regulatory agencies will take place at the Tennessee Oil and Gas Board offices at 401 Church St., L&C Tower., 13th Floor in Nashville. STRONGER's state review process brings together representatives from the state, the oil and gas industry, and public interest/environmental stakeholders to evaluate, against a set of national guidelines, and improve state oil and gas regulatory programs. STRONGER shares innovative techniques and environmental protection strategies and identifies opportunities for program improvement.
Tennessee's review team members include: Bob Wilson, Director of the Virginia Division of Oil and Gas; Kathy J. Martin, a registered professional engineer and a member of the STRONGER Board of Directors, and John Johnston, Esq. of Steptoe & Johnson, PLLC. Official observers include representatives from the oil and gas industry and federal regulatory agencies.
STRONGER's mission is to educate and provide services for the continuous improvement of regulatory programs and industry practices in order to enhance human health and the environment.
