Cougar Energy Ltd to Develop 400 MW UCG Power Station, Houston Conference to Discuss This Development and Others

Cougar Energy Ltd announced yesterday that it will develop a 400 MW UCG power station in Pakistan following receipt of a letter of offer from the regional government of Sindh. Cougar (UK) Ltd will finalize a memorandum of understanding (MOU) within a month for an exploration license over 65 sq km of the 100 billion ton Thar coalfield, 300 km east of Karachi.
Cougar UK will have access to a large coal deposit containing coal seams ranging from 8m to 23m thick. Over the next 6-12 months, the company will undertake a drilling and testing program as well as complete a feasibility study for a power station of at least 400 MW within 18 months.
Ergo Exergy Technologies' screening study in 2003 found the deposit was likely to support a UCG operation with output to sustain a power station in the range of 120 MW to 1200 MW. Cougar UK is currently setting up a Pakistan operating company.
