NetForecast Analysis of Network Physics' Customers Shows Key Application Performance Benefits Resulting in a 3-6 Month ROI

Posted on: Tuesday, 19 October 2004, 12:00 CDT

Rapid ROI a Result of Multiple Resource, Staff and User Benefits from the Network Physics Appliance

NetForecast, Inc., today announced the availability of its in-depth market analysis of Network Physics' customers, which validates that Network Physics' NP-2000 provides significant performance benefits and a return on investment (ROI) within three to six months. NetForecast is a leading independent consultancy focusing on quantifying the value of better application performance. Network Physics is the leader in network application management across converging networks.

The NP-2000 is a flow-based appliance for managing network applications across large, complex, and dynamic networks. Its software monitors every flow between IP addresses in internal and external enterprise networks. It displays the resulting performance, utilization, route and packet metrics in the context of the business services functions, users and sites impacted. The NP-2000 monitors actual network flows -- all traffic, all the time, in real time, at speeds up to 750 Mbps. The automated, per-flow reports include response time, utilization and congestion measurements.

The strong ROI is a result of the many significant benefits provided by the Network Physics NP-2000:

-- Faster Troubleshooting -- The Network Physics product provided information needed to identify application performance problems and quickly pinpoint their cause. According to one customer interviewed, "What used to take one to two hours, now takes three to five minutes."

-- Increased Staff Effectiveness -- With the NP-2000, enterprises had access to information they had never had before, enabling the appropriate organizations to work together to solve problems. One respondent commented, "Now, because of Network Physics and the track record we have for identifying what the issues are, the number of first contacts with problems has reduced dramatically."

-- Improved IT Resource Utilization -- Network Physics gave a clear picture how IT resources were being used and the ability to correct inefficiencies. "A lot of very costly inefficiencies were corrected once we got Network Physics in place," stated one respondent.

-- Improved security, increased user satisfaction and improved application user productivity also were cited as important benefits.

Research Methodology

NetForecast conducted in-depth interviews with technical professionals responsible for application performance. They asked a series of questions to identify the business motivation for choosing the Network Physics technology, to determine what benefits enterprises actually experience, and to determine how each enterprise translated the improved performance they experienced into business value. The ROI information submitted by the companies was analyzed and integrated. All were Network Physics customers and included multi-million- and multi-billion-dollar corporations in finance, insurance, media and technology. These customers use Network Physics' technology for a wide range of applications including insurance claims processing, CRM, ERP, sales force automation, e-mail, and e-commerce. All participants are quoted anonymously in the report. Peter Sevcik, Rebecca Wetzel and John Bartlett of NetForecast conducted the primary research.

"NetForecast has been looking at application performance as a key indicator of enterprises' ability to successfully manage their IT infrastructure as well as meet their business goals. Our conversations with Network Physics' customers, which represent some of the largest companies in their fields, confirmed that improving application performance is a key factor to success," said Peter Sevcik, President of NetForecast.
