Water Centre is Still Making Waves in Education
A water teaching centre has celebrated 10 years of educating children about the environment.
Welsh Water’s environmental education centre at Cilfynydd, near Pontypridd, has welcomed more than 33,000 schoolchildren since it opened in 1997.
The man responsible for opening the facility, Jeff Morgan, recently retired as environment and education manager, said: “Welsh Water views its corporate social responsibility very seriously and the commitment to environmental education is long-term.
“With the support and specialist expertise from bodies such as Keep Wales Tidy, Education Business Partnership, Careers Wales and the Wildlife Trusts, we have created a unique and valuable resource.”
Education Business Partnership chief executive Keith Gillard said: “A key element of Welsh Water’s environment strategy is to win over the hearts and minds of young people.
“Cilfynydd Environmental Education Centre is a shining example of this strategy. The purpose-built centre now accommodates more than 4,000 pupils a year.
“Its success has led to investment in a further three centres making Welsh Water the leading employer in Wales in supporting environmental education in schools.”
