North Michigan Woods Due Theme Park
The coming of Main Street America, a proposed four-season amusement park, has folks all abuzz in Michigan’s north woods around Grayling.
The $160 million project, projected for 2010, will have roller coasters, a water park and snowmobile and racecar tracks, a campground and amphitheater, with such wholesome themes as Bob Hope and farm life.
More important, boosters say, it promises to create 2,000 jobs in an economically depressed region, the Detroit News reported.
But, there’s a catch. First, the developers must talk the state into selling them the 18,000 acres of land needed for the park. The land sought is a vacant industrial park set aside for about seven years for economic development.
If the state comes around, groundbreaking could be in the fall.
