Siemens Foundation Announces Semi-Finalists in 2004-05 Siemens Westinghouse Competition; 332 Students in 38 States Recognized

ISELIN, N.J., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Siemens Foundation has announced the Semi-Finalists in the 2004-05 Siemens Westinghouse Competition in Math, Science & Technology, the nation's premiere high school science research competition. 332 students in 38 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico were selected as Semi-Finalists. The Siemens Westinghouse Competition, a signature program of the New Jersey-based Siemens Foundation, is America's leading research-based science and math competition for high school students. The competition awards college scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $100,000.

Up to 30 individual students and 30 teams (of two or three students) will be selected from the list of Semi-Finalists to compete in regional competitions hosted at six leading research universities: Carnegie Mellon University; University of Notre Dame; University of California, Berkeley; Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Georgia Institute of Technology; and the University of Texas at Austin. The Regional Finals begin on November 5, 2004.

Winners of the regional competitions are invited to compete at the National Finals, which will be held December 4-6, 2004, at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Washington DC. The competition is administered by the College Board.
