The 31st Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers Will Take Place in Roseneath, Prince Edward Island on June 25 & 26, 2007
BOSTON, June 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Governor James H. Douglas of Vermont will co-host with Premier Robert Ghiz of Prince Edward Island the 31st Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers in Roseneath, Prince Edward Island, on June 25 and 26, 2007.
The Governors and Premiers first met in August of 1973 at the very same location. The theme of this year’s 31st Conference is “Building on Tradition — Our People, Our Government, Our Future.”
“For over 30 years this conference has brought together leaders from the six New England states and five Eastern Canadian provinces to address the common challenges and opportunities facing our region” said Governor Douglas. “These meetings have resulted in substantial progress on energy, environmental policy, trade and security issues. The 31st Conference will address several important topics, including: — Outcomes and Recommendations from the Ministerial Forum on Energy and Environment, held in Quebec City on February 12, 2007 — Oceans Management — Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative — The Challenges of Changing Demographics — Discussions on Canada-US Relations with the U.S. Ambassador to Canada, Honorable David H. Wilkins and the Honorable Neil Le Blanc, Consul General of Canada in Boston.
Governor Douglas will also host a separate meeting of the New England Governors’ Conference during this event.
