Zoo-Per Trooper Taoiseach
By CLAIRE O’BOYLE
TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern made a trunk call yesterday.
But this adorable two-month-old baby elephant unveiled by Dublin Zoo for the first time didn’t seem too fazed by all the fuss.
Zoo bosses want the public to name the female, who made her debut on the same day the Taoiseach opened a new rainforest in the Phoenix Park venue. He cut the ribbon at the Kaziranga Forest Trail, a habitat full of dense vegetation and cool water pools.
Fresh from quarantine, Asian elephants Bernhardine and Yasmin also made their first appearance. Mr Ahern said: “We take another vital step forward in supporting elephants in the wild.
“The herd members may be thousands of miles from their original homeland, but you have created a realistic habitat that is both stimulating and enriching while also meeting their biological needs.”
