BRIEF: MB Sandcastle on Today Show (Picture)
By The Sun News, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Jul. 3–Myrtle Beach’s record-breaking sandcastle was featured on the Today Show this morning.
The crew that built the sandcastle off of Ocean Boulevard took their talents up north and built a replica for the NBC show.
Team Sandtastic, of Sarasota, Fla., used 20 tons of sand and built the replica in Rockefeller Center in eight hours. It took two hours to cart away the sand, according to a press release.
The Myrtle Beach sandcastle measured 49.55 feet before Tropical Storm Barry blew several feet off the top. Afterward, the castle measured 43.12 feet.
The city broke the 37.9 foot record held by Virginia Beach, measured last summer. Before that, the record belonged briefly to Myrtle Beach.
