A DAD who set up a victim support group after his daughter’s murder has received a top business award.

David Hines, pictured above, has been listed in the top 25 at the Barclays Trading Places Awards, and hopes to scoop the top prize at a ceremony in London.

Mr Hines helped set up Victimcare, with colleague Clive Elliot, after identifying a gap in the market.

The company aims to re-empower victims of crime and their families by giving them practical help.

The awards recognise individuals who have overcome adversity to positively change their lives by going into business.

Mr Hines, whose daughter Marie was killed in 1992, said: “We put in for this award because we needed the money to promote and develop the company for the benefit of the community.

“We are honoured to be named in the top 25 of the awards.”

Mr Hines is also the man behind the North of England Victims Association, a charity that helps families of murder and manslaughter victims in the region.
