SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 11 /PRNewswire/ -- NEC Electronics America, Inc. today announced that the environmental management systems (EMS) at its Santa Clara (California) headquarters, Roseville (California) manufacturing plant and Irving (Texas) marketing, sales and design center have all been recertified by Underwriters Laboratories for conformance to the ISO 14001:2004 standard. This year marks the third consecutive certification for the EMS in Santa Clara, the fifth for the EMS in Roseville and the second for the EMS in Irving.
A clear vision, hard work, team effort and employee involvement over the past several years have enabled the company to make continual improvements to its three environmental systems. Past programs in Santa Clara and Irving have helped the company reduce paper usage and electricity consumption, increase recycling efforts and implement "green" alternatives for a number of products used internally. This year's objectives are aimed at implementing a recycling program at the Irving office, eliminating the use of lead solder in labs and establishing a program for employee ride-sharing.
Environmental objectives at the manufacturing plant in Roseville continue to be focused on expanding the facility's recycling programs and achieving further reductions in chemical usage and greenhouse gas emissions. As proof of its dedication to waste reduction, the Roseville manufacturing plant recently received its fifth consecutive WasteWise award for commendable achievement from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). WasteWise (http://www.epa.gov/wastewise) is a voluntary EPA program through which organizations can eliminate costly solid waste to benefit both their bottom lines and the environment. "NEC Electronics America's commitment to corporate social responsibility is an ongoing source of pride that is reflected in our business practices and site operations," said Denise Iwata, director of corporate communications and environmental management representative, NEC Electronics America. "The steady progress of our environmental activities, and the recertification of environmental management systems at three different sites, highlights our commitment to conserving the earth's natural resources and protecting the environment."
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies. The International Environmental Management System Standard (ISO 14001) developed by ISO is the recognized standard for environmental management, as well as a benchmark for environmental excellence.
