Marlin Bay Yacht Club Contributes $750,000 to Improve Waterways in Florida Keys and State of Florida
Marlin Bay Yacht Club, a luxury residential and marina community in Marathon, FL, will contribute $180,000 in funding to provide for public boat ramps and associated parking in Marathon as well as improve mooring in Boot Key Harbor. The community will also provide an additional $570,000 of goods and services to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to install and maintain mooring buoys open to the public within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary as well as to maintain and enhance public access to state submerged lands.
The funding will improve overall public access to boating facilities within the city of Marathon and will benefit residents of the city, neighboring municipalities and visitors to the area.
"These investments achieve a critical objective; they improve public access to our state waterways," said Thad Rutherford, project manager of Marlin Bay Yacht Club. "There are so many boating enthusiasts in South Florida and The Keys, but access to launch ramps is limited and parking is practically non-existent. As the developer of the largest new-construction project in the Middle Keys, it is our pleasure and a critical component of our commitment to the community to enhance the lives of the many residents -- and guests -- of Marathon and Monroe County."
With its model home scheduled to open in August, Marlin Bay Yacht Club is currently under construction of its phase one and clubhouse. The community of 84 single-family homes offers each homebuyer a boat slip and clubhouse equity membership.
"It's important for people to know that the agreement for the funds for public access came after the development agreement and permits were issued," said C.J. Geotis, deputy city/ports manager of the city of Marathon. "Marlin Bay Yacht Club actually approached the city of Marathon to ask if we would be interested in taking funds directly for public access for residents of the city, rather than just making the entire contribution to the state of Florida."
Geotis said he is impressed with the developer's plans for Marlin Bay Yacht Club. "The whole project is just gorgeous," he said. "I'm looking forward to seeing it completed." He added that the project is building nine workforce housing units onsite and contributing to the city's affordable housing fund.
Situated on seven tropical acres at 3980 Overseas Highway in Marathon, Marlin Bay Yacht Club is a $220 million luxury waterfront community with amenities such as a state-of-the-art marina, full time dock master, 8,000-square-foot clubhouse with business and fitness centers, resort-style pool, and tiki bars. Prices range from $1.9 million to $4 million for homes up to 6,432 total square feet in size that boast award-winning architectural detail, roof top terraces with panoramic views, two-car garages, designer amenities and finishes and the maximum hurricane protection envisioned by South Florida's strict building code.
The developer, Sandler at Greater Marathon Bay, is a real estate investment and land development company with over 20 years of demonstrated success in the marketplace and over 110 projects completed, near completion or underway to date.
