California Cops Pull Up 6,000 Pot Plants
Authorities in California uprooted 6,000 marijuana plants, with an estimated value of $600,000, in an Orange County wilderness park.
The 3- to 6-foot tall plants on two plots in the Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park were spotted by authorities looking for fire hazards in the drought-stricken area, the Orange County (Calif.) Register reported Friday.
Because of the drought, it just didn’t add up, Jim Amormino a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department told the Register.
Whoever was growing the plants hooked into a nearby neighborhood association’s irrigation system, the newspaper reported. The sheriff’s department staked out the area but made no arrests.
A similar marijuana operation was discovered a half mile away last September.
