Staffordshire News: Reserve’s Pool Set for Silt Removal ; NATURE
STAFFORDSHIRE Wildlife Trust and Sugnall Estate are about to embark upon an ambitious project to restore Walk Mill pool to its former glory.
Frequent visitors to the Wildlife Trust’s Jackson’s Marsh nature reserve will notice that the adjoining Walk Mill pool often dries out during the summer.
This is due to the accumulation of silt which is carried into the pool along the River Sow and settles in the stiller waters of the pool.
Over many years this silt has built up so that only shallow areas of open water remain.
Helen Gee, of the Wildlife Trust, said: “The project will aim to remove the accumulated silt so that a more extensive area of open water remains all year round.
“Although there will be some short term disruption there will be significant longer term benefits.”
