'Star Trek' Producer Justman Dead at 81

Posted on: Sunday, 1 June 2008, 15:00 CDT

TV producer Robert H. Justman, who worked on two key Star Trek TV series, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 81, his son says.

Jonathan Justman said his father, who worked on both the original Star Trek TV series and on Star Trek: The Next Generation, died of complications from Parkinson's disease, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.

Jonathan Justman also noted his father's death last Wednesday came within days of his fellow Trek collaborators, director Joseph Pevney and composer Alexander Courage.

There seems to be a big 'Star Trek' convention and everyone is going, he said. Everyone is getting beamed up.

In a 2001 interview, Justman said his work on the original Trek series went far beyond that of a simple science fiction show.

It wasn't just a science fiction show; it was a morality play, Justman said of the cult favorite. It was, 'Do the right thing and do right by your fellow man, and all will be well, hopefully.'

The Times said in addition to his son, Justman is survived by his wife Jacqueline, two other children, a brother, two sisters and five grandchildren.
