AMC executives say they are considering a new series for the U.S. cable TV network focused on the novel "Red Mars."
Christina Wayne, senior vice president for the network's original series and miniseries department, said adapting author Kim Stanley Robinson's 1992 novel to the small screen would be part of AMC's ongoing attempts to create "one-hour movies," The Hollywood Reporter said Saturday.
"This fits in with our bigger vision of wanting series that feel like cinematic one-hour movies," Wayne said.
"We're always looking for big genres but to do them in slightly different ways so they feel fresh and new."
Like the book, the proposed AMC series would follow the exploits of a team of humans attempting to colonize Mars for future generations.
The Reporter said in addition to the "Mars" series project, AMC has announced tabbing the diamond industry-oriented drama "Ice" and a TV adaptation of the novel "Carter Beats the Devil" for its upcoming TV offerings.
