Space Station Crew Re-Dock Soyuz Craft Onto Cargo Module

Korolev (Moscow Region), 29 November: The manned Soyuz space craft has been re-docked successfully onto the cargo module of the International Space Station after the 10th crew took it through an orbital flight, ITAR-TASS news agency was told by Valeriy Lyndin, official spokesman for Mission Control Centre outside Moscow. "At 1252 Moscow time [0952 gmt] Russian cosmonaut Salizhan Sharipov manually docked the Soyuz-TM-5 to the Zarya functional cargo module," he said.
"NASA astronaut Leroy Chiao helped to control operation of onboard systems on the craft," flight control centre said. "The flight from the Pirs docking section to Zarya took around half an hour and went as expected," Lyndin said.
He explained that the manned Soyuz spacecraft had to be removed from the Pirs docking port ahead of extra-vehicular activity by the crew planned for the start of the new year. "The crew will be leaving the International Space Station and returning on board via Pirs; if the craft were still docked there, this could hamper the crew in the event of an unforeseen contingency," Lyndin explained.
