NASA Astronaut to Visit Chesterfield County Students

HOUSTON, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — NASA astronaut Robert Curbeam will speak to students at J.B. Watkins Elementary School, Midlothian, Va., on Friday, Sept. 28. During the school visit, he will share his experiences as an astronaut and discuss his recent mission to the International Space Station.

At 9:45 a.m., Curbeam will present a multimedia presentation to kindergarten through third-grade students at J.B. Watkins Elementary School. Students in grades 4 to 6 will meet with Curbeam at 1:30 p.m. Following the presentations, there will be brief question-and answer-sessions. Curbeam will be available for media interviews during his visit to Midlothian.

Selected by NASA in 1994, Curbeam is a veteran of three spaceflights. He flew aboard Discovery in December 2006 on a 13-day mission to the International Space Station to rearrange the complexs power and cooling systems. He did four spacewalks during the mission, setting a record for the most spacewalks in a single shuttle mission. Curbeam has logged more than 901 hours in space, including seven spacewalks totaling 45 hours and 34 minutes.
