Mysterious Object Floating Past Mercury?
A NASA telescope has revealed a gigantic object the size of a planet floating around Mercury, leading some to believe it could be a UFO.
The object appears in a video sequence of images of a coronal ejection from the Sun. As a flare crosses Mercury, a huge round object appears next to it.
YouTube user siniXster, who uploaded the video, says in his commentary that he believes it is a ship.
"It's cylindrical on either side and has a shape in the middle. It definitely looks like a ship to me, and very obviously, it's cloaked," YouTube-user siniXster said in his video commentary.
However, NASA scientists say the object is merely a result of the way the images are processed.
A United States Naval Research Laboratory engineer, Nathan Rich, said that the "object" is actually the image of Mercury from the previous day.
Researchers compared the images taken by the Heliospheric Imager-1 telescope with one taken the day before and subtracted anything that appeared twice. In this process, stars are eliminated, but moving objects, like planets, are more difficult to remove.
This process works good for removing stars, which do not move much relative to the sun. However, it can get trickier when removing planets and nearer objects.
Regardless, UFO or not, the video has had over a million visitors since it was posted on December 3.
