February Facebook Giveaway – Shoot for the Moon!

February 21, 2012
Repost This

It’s time to “Shoot for the Moon” with RedOrbit.com!

That’s right, folks, it’s time for another Facebook giveaway contest. This time, we’ll change it up just a bit.

For starters, to encourage scientific discovery and an interest in astronomy, our grand prize is a complete telescope set. If you’re not a stargazer already, you will be once you win. (And yes, there will still be fantastic prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place!)

How do I enter?

1) Go outside tonight (or tomorrow night, or the night after that…) and take a FANTASTIC picture of the moon. The more interesting and creative, the better.

2) Email it to jvalenzano@RedOrbit.com by 12:00 noon (CST) on Monday, February 27th, 2012.

3) Include your name and mailing address and your FACEBOOK name (if different) in the email.

4) Include the following text in your email (go ahead, just copy and paste): “By entering this contest, I hereby state that I am 18 years of age or older and that this photo is of my own creation and cannot be attributed to any third party, nor does it contain any copyrighted imagery. I understand that this contest is in no way associated with or endorsed by Facebook and agree to hold them harmless in any matters regarding this contest. Also by entering, I understand my photo may be used on the RedOrbit.com website or social media pages, however my name may be withheld upon my request.”

3) Winners will be announced on Wednesday, February 29th, 2012. Entering is just that easy!

What are the rules?

1) The photo must be your OWN. Any use of copyrighted material is grounds for immediate disqualification.

2) The photo must be CURRENT, as in taken sometime between NOW and the end of the contest. Photos taken before Tuesday, February 14th, 2012 are not eligible. (And yes, we’ll be checking the lunar phase calendar to be reasonably sure.)

3) You may use image editing programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, to ENHANCE your photograph or create a photo composition, provided said composition does not contain any copyrighted imagery (see above) and the primary image(s) of the moon are taken within the designated time period.

4) The image must be 1024 x 768 pixels or larger and in JPEG format.

5) Unfortunately, previous contest and giveaway prize winners are NOT eligible to compete in this contest.

6) Unfortunately, we cannot ship prizes to international winners. In the event fans outside the U.S. want to enter, we will happily substitute an Amazon gift card of equal value.

How will the entries be judged?

1) They will be judged by a panel of redOrbit staff, including our writers and editors.

2) John Valenzano, assistant editor and social media manager for RedOrbit.com will NOT be voting and will “anonymize” all images before passing them along to redOrbit staff for voting.

3) The judges will be looking for image clarity, composition and creativity when making their preferred selection.

4) Entered images WILL be posted on redOrbit’s Facebook page and feedback WILL be gathered from our followers, however each judge will have his or her own vote and Facebook comments and likes will NOT be a factor in judging.

That’s it, folks!

So, grab your camera, get out there tonight (or some night soon) and “Shoot for the Moon” with RedOrbit.com!
