Ashton Kutcher Buys 500th Virgin Galactic Ticket

March 22, 2012

Richard Branson the famed owner of Virgin Galactic announced the 500th ticket for a Virgin Galactic flight, reports Ann Oldenburg for USA Today.

Branson said, “Our 500th future astronaut customer has just signed up! Even better news is that number 500 is Ashton Kutcher. I gave Ashton a quick call to congratulate and welcome him. He is as thrilled as we are at the prospect of being among the first to cross the final frontier (and back!) with us and to experience the magic of space for himself.”

Kutcher will ride on SpaceShipTwo, which is a six passenger, two-pilot spaceship built by Scaled Composites. Shervin Pishevar, who is customer 499, will join his friend Ashton Kutcher on the space flight as they both realized they “both shared a childhood dream of going to space.”

The flight will take the passengers up to an altitude of 68 miles (359,040 feet) where they will be able to experience the thrill of zero gravity for a few minutes. Passengers will also be able to view the curvature of the Earth against the blackness of space.

A round trip ticket on Virgin Galactic costs $200,000 per customer with a $20,000 deposit. This price point makes flights available only to wealthy customers, some of which include other celebrities such as Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Katy Perry.

Pre-commercial test flights are ongoing with commercial flights expected to begin sometime in 2013 or 2014.
