Russian rocket sends German spy satellite into orbit
MOSCOW, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) — A Russian rocket sent a German spy satellite into orbit early Thursday, news agencies reported.
The Kosmos-3M rocket blasted off from the Plesetsk space centerin north Russia’s Arkhangelsk region, putting the German SAR-Lupe satellite into target orbit, Russian Space Forces spokesman AlexeiZolotukhin was quoted as saying.
It was the third launch of five SAR-Lupe satellites, which willall be put into space by Russia in 2009, according to a contract signed in 2003. The previous two took place in December 2006 and July 2007 respectively.
