National Science Center's CEO Will Be Leaving Position

Dec. 29--The head of the National Science Center announced Tuesday that he is leaving to take a job in Washington, D.C.
Joe Edwards has been the center's CEO since June 2002.
The former NASA astronaut said he will now be an executive with Electronic Data Systems in Washington, D.C., but will remain on the center's board of directors. Mr. Edwards became the center's CEO after Paul S. Simon resigned in May 2002.
Mr. Edwards said he hopes to continue helping the center provide laboratory-based educational services as a board member.
Mr. Edwards said one of his favorite memories as CEO came last year, when the center got a $4.67 donation in change from a young boy to help the families of the deceased crew members of the Columbia space shuttle.
"The whole 2 years has been a joy for me and my family," Mr. Edwards said.
He said he thinks the center will continue on its current course.
"I think the board has a very firm vision for NSC that is still pertinent," he said.
Mr. Edwards was selected after a national search, spokeswoman Kathi Dimmock said. His last day as CEO will be Monday.
Ms. Dimmock said the center will release more information about the search for a new CEO in the next few days.
It has yet to be decided whether the search will be done locally or nationally and how long it will take. No interim CEO has been announced.
