Moscow, 3 February: Russia is inviting the USA to make their new space systems compatible so that crews could help each other in an emergency, the Federal Space Agency (Roskosmos) has told ITAR-TASS. "The proposal to create compatible space systems aimed to sustain man's life and work in space that was made to the USA earlier still stands," the agency's spokesperson Igor Zatula said.
"We have proposed making the new Russian Kliper spacecraft and the American manned research spacecraft completely compatible and interchangeable at all fundamental stages of space flight," Roskosmos chief Anatoliy Perminov said. He went on to add that "the Russian and American spacecraft could perhaps dock with one another for the transfer of the crew, perform joint refuelling and also when necessary, carry out the rescue of the other country's spacecraft if it should get into trouble".
