China Denies U.S. Allegations of Space Weaponry Projects
May 23, 2008
China has exclusively peaceful goals in space exploration and strongly objects to space militarization, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang told a press briefing on Thursday.
"Our position is absolutely clear, and we have expressed it many times: we have exclusively peaceful goals in space exploration and object to any form of space militarization," he said.
"China was, is and will always be against a space arms race," Qin said.
On Wednesday, Brigadier General Jeffrey Horn from the U.S. Strategic Command said that China was actively developing space weaponry, including systems that could shoot down satellites.
