Gardens Plan for Parking

September 10, 2008

PARKING capacity at a busy city train station near Erdington may be increased – by using rear gardens.

Centro wants to extend the Chester Road park-and ride scheme, between Erdington and Sutton Coldfield, by using half of the gardens at five houses on nearby Green Lanes.

The changes between 16 and 24 Green Lanes will include the rearrangement of spaces at the back of number 12 and 14 to create 38 new spaces on top of the current 149-vehicle capacity car park..

The plans for the station on the Lich field to Redd itch line, which will be decided by city planners on tomorrow and will also ask for five extra lights and two new CCTV cameras.

Six local people have objected to the plans, raising concerns about congestion, noise, pollution and the loss of trees.

The car park was last extended two years ago to provide an extra 45 spaces and if these plans are approved, work could begin next summer.
