The U.S. space agency says it plans to telecast high-definition views of the Earth from the International Space State Wednesday in celebration of Earth Day.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration scientists said the space station and its crew have an exceptional view of the Earth, orbiting the planet once every 90 minutes from an altitude of approximately 220 miles at a speed of about 17,500 miles per hour. That provides the crew with 16 sunrises and sunsets each day. The station has been continuously occupied since November 2000.

The special high-definition Earth views can be seen Wednesday from 6 to 9 a.m., noon to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. EDT.
