Integral Systems Congratulates NASA and the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory MESSENGER Team on its Successful Flyby of the Planet Mercury

October 2, 2009

COLUMBIA, Md., Oct. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — On September 29, NASA’s MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging spacecraft, more commonly referred to as “MESSENGER,” flew within 142 miles of Mercury’s surface. This was the spacecraft’s third and final flyby of the planet. Designed, built, managed, and operated by the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, MESSENGER is scheduled for a 2011 insertion into Mercury’s orbit.

“Integral Systems congratulates NASA and APL on the success of the MESSENGER Mission and its third Mercury flyby,” said Paul Casner, CEO of Integral Systems. “MESSENGER has traveled almost four billion miles flying around the sun 15 times on its way to Mercury. It’s an amazing engineering accomplishment that should not be overlooked.”

Integral Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: ISYS), has been an instrumental part of the MESSENGER program, providing its EPOCH Integrated Product Suite (IPS) telemetry and command processing solution. EPOCH was used during the Integration and Test (I&T) phase to ensure the spacecraft’s flight readiness and continues to support daily mission operations.

Casner continued, “Integral Systems is proud to join NASA and APL in supporting the MESSENGER program. In conjunction with the MESSENGER Team, we provided a cost-effective, commercial off-the-shelf solution that supports NASA’s mission to develop low-cost, scientifically-focused missions.”
