Bacon at the Movies: Dog stars will space out your little 'uns
Posted on: Sunday, 14 December 2003, 06:00 CST
THIS is an old-fashioned kids' movie about dogs from space - which is not as bad as it sounds.
Basic plot: 12-year- old boy Owen adopts a mutt and is then accidentally granted the ability to talk to man's best friend.
Dogs, it turns out, have been sent from space to take over Earth but instead have become lazy fat useless pets.
Space hound Hubble (voiced by Matthew Broderick) is there to get them into line before their leader - The Greater Dane - carries out an inspection. If he fails, all dogs are going back to space. So it's up to Owen to help Hubble to make sure this doesn't happen.
It's no Shrek - but it's fun for the young 'uns.
Go and see it if you've got kids. If you don't have kids, see a fertility expert or avoid it altogether. You may find the film a little too sweet.
Most viewers will think: "Earth colonised by talking dogs? That could never happen."
One night in Ipswich will prove you wrong.
