Russia to Boost Federal Spending on Space Programs in 2006

MOSCOW. Aug 17 (Interfax) - In 2006 Russian federal government spending on space programs will amount to 6,153 million rubles, according to the draft budget the Finance Ministry will submit to a Thursday Cabinet meeting for consideration.
The draft says the sum exceeds funding for 2005 by 160.6%. Under the 2006 federal space program two manned missions and four cargo spacecraft will be sent to the International Space Station (ISS). The Meteor-M satellite and Sterkh mini satellites will also be launched, with further launches and flight control of spacecraft also will being organized.
Funds will be assigned for the maintenance of over 900 facilities at Baikonur cosmodrome under the Baikonur rent agreement with Kazakhstan.
The federal program of global navigation systems provides for the launch of three Glonass-M satellites and preparatory work for the launch of six Glonass-M satellites in 2007.
