Israeli satellite launched from Russian-leased space site reaches target orbit

Moscow, 28 December: The Soyuz-FT booster rocket has taken the Israeli AMOS-2 telecommunications spacecraft to the target orbit, the press service of the Russian Space Troops has told ITAR-TASS.
The booster rocket was launched from the Baykonur cosmodrome at 0030 Moscow time today [2130 gmt on 27 December]. The launch proceeded without any emergencies.
At 0717 Moscow time [0414 gmt] the spacecraft separated from the Fregat propulsion unit and reached the intended geostationary orbit at a height of over 36,000 km. The control of the AMOS-2 has been handed over to the Israeli side. [Passage to end omitted.]
