BEIJING. Nov 7 (Interfax-China) - An unmanned lunar exploration has been named as a strategic goal for Russian-Chinese space cooperation, head of the Russian Federal Space Agency Anatoly Perminov told Russian reporters on Monday.
Though the current cooperation program expires in 2006 "the sides have been supplementing it with important sections since spring 2005," he said. Part of them will be included in the new cooperation program for 2007-2010.
"Russia does not have a special lunar program, but we are ready to help China develop lunar study systems," Perminov said.
The new joint program, to be launched in 2007, "will provide for interaction in developing various space systems, primarily satellites, an observatory and radio telescope systems and the probing of the surface of Mars' moon Phobos," Perminov said.
"The new program is also expected to provide for the development of space communication systems and land remote sensing," he said.
