NASA said Wednesday that Alliant Techsystems will be the prime contractor to design, develop, test and evaluate the first-stage propulsion system for its next-generation vehicle for manned space flight.
ATK, which supplies NASA with space shuttle solid-fuel boosters from facilities in Utah, said opportunities for additional scope on space missions include crew escape designs, lunar-lander systems, thermal and radiation shielding, and advanced lightweight materials.
