Advancing their art *** Older Westdale Middle students improve photo-realism techniques *** Artists create handiwork using different techniques

NEGATIVE-POSITIVE SPACE: A study of negative-positive space involves alternately inking negative space and positive space in a drawing. Positive space is occupied space such as a flower and negative space is the unoccupied space such as a background. PHOTO- REALISM: A style of painting that resembles photography in its meticulous attention to realistic detail. There are two popular techniques photo-realists use for copying so much detail. One process is to use a slide or transparency projector and draw over the projected image. An artist can also use the grid system by making a grid on the photo proportional to the canvas and then enlarging each block.
