Moscow, 29 October: Seven space craft have been added to the Russian military [space] orbital group this year, the Space Troops' press service told ITAR-TASS today.
It is being gradually restored and is acquiring a qualitatively new nature, specialists have said.
At least one-third of the space craft which are currently in space belong to a new generation. Forty per cent of satellites are civilian or dual-purpose satellites. It has been planned by the Space Troops command that the orbital group will acquire another six space craft before the end of the year.
The number of satellites currently in space whose service life is unlimited is "1.5 times higher than two years ago". The number of space craft whose warranty period has not expired, has increased by a factor of 2.5. Tests of new communications and navigation satellites have begun. A new-generation surveillance space craft is being developed. [Passage omitted]
