BAIKONUR. Oct 17 (Interfax) - A Russian national is among the latest space tourism candidates, Russian Aerospace Agency deputy chief Nikolai Moiseyev announced at Baikonur on Friday.
He noted that "we cannot name the candidates, as everything is at the stage of examinations."
Moiseyev said a spring flight to the International Space Station (ISS) has been planned. Its crew will consist of a Russian cosmonaut, an American astronaut and an ESA astronaut. Later, in October, "the third seat in a Soyuz spacecraft is likely to be taken by a tourist," he said.
Russian space agency press secretary Sergei Gorbunov told Interfax that the selection of space tourism candidates is nearing completion.
"There are two definite candidates who are ready to sign contracts. The two seats that the Russian agency has sold to Space Adventures company will be sold and the money used to fund the ISS," he said.
"The two candidates are not Russians. There have also been applications from Russians, but as they say, we didn't come together," Gorbunov added.
