NASA Satellite Sees White Blanket Covering the Eastern U.S.
Goddard Space Flight Center -- Three days after snow painted almost half the United States white, life is slowly returning to normal for the Middle Atlantic and Northeastern U.S.
Final storm totals indicate parts of Western Maryland received up to four feet of snow, while New York City topped out at just over 25 inches. Now, the East prepares for the great melt down.
Rising temperatures and heavy rains threaten basements, streets and rivers with flooding.
This true-color image was acquired on February 20, 2003 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA's Terra satellite shows a white blanket covering the East.
