US ambassador pays tribute to space cooperation with Russia

[Presenter] Our answer to China. This slogan, which is reminiscent of the days of the space race, was displayed today on board the rocket which took off with a new crew for the International Space Station. [Passage omitted]
[Correspondent] Today's launch from Baykonur aroused a lot of interest among the Americans. It was attended by all the NASA directors and even the US ambassador to Russia.
[Alexander Vershbow, US ambassador to Russia, speaking Russian] For me, it is fantastic to be here at the launch of this rocket. This is the first time in my life I've been at such an event. This is also very important from the political point of view, because it demonstrates the solidarity that exists between our two countries, especially after the tragedy involving the Columbia space-shuttle.
